Trailers or Cliff's Notes?

Indiewire recently posted this article comparing the latest Superman vs. Batman trailer to the original Tim Burton Batman trailer.  While I am excited for this new installment from DC, I do feel like trailers give away way too much these days.  Trailers should be designed to build anticipation for an upcoming film, not spoil the entire plot and reveal punchlines.
